About Dare 2010

What you need to know now about Dare 2010!

Application

•This year the “dreamer” element will not be happening. This means teams applying to Dare do not have to reveal their game idea to the public before they apply; only the Dare admin staff and judging panel will see it. But if you want to gather market research about your game idea, you can also do so through our forum.

• The Dare judging criteria are market potential, use of technology and creativity and innovation – when applying please focus on these points. A balance of skills within a team is also very important.

• We welcome multi-university teams (ie teams composed of students from different universities). Do not give up on applying to Dare if you have a good idea but no team yet – you can find team members through our forum (successful teams have been formed there in the past).

• Make sure you do market research about your game idea and your targeted delivery channel (for example wii, iphone, Xbox Arcade or social networking sites, eg Facebook). Make sure you can stand out from the crowd.

Dare will open for entries on 1st February 2010 - but you can still start planning your entry and thinking of games ideas now!

Host centre location

All teams selected to take part in Dare will, as per 2009, be hosted in one host centre, at Abertay University in Dundee.

Selection day locations

We will continue to have selection centres across the UK, tentatively Scotland, Midlands and London.

Overseas applications

Applications from outside the UK are welcome, subject to funding availability from your country. Unless yours is a specified country where selection events are to be held, all overseas teams will need to fund themselves to come to the UK to be interviewed if invited by the selection panel. Video Conference will only be considered where there are enough teams.
